Rutgers Newark MAPS Health Conference: Bridging Borders - A Global Initiative | Paul Robeson Campus Center | laurdag, 20. april 2019

On April 20th, 2019, we, the Minority Association of Pre-Health Students, will be hosting our third annual health conference with the theme entitled “Bridging Borders: A Global Initiative.” The conference aims to not only bring awareness to the current issues faced by disadvantaged countries, but also ways in which current and future healthcare providers can help alleviate similar issues and modify their practice in a local setting. Our focus is to provide students with the passion to realize the good they can do beyond the boundaries of the Rutgers University-Newark campus through lectures and interactive workshops hosted by influential figures who have experienced the ongoing strife first hand.  Students will also be provided with insight into the pre-health careers of their choice by working with students in respective professional programs.

Working together with the organization Kids Against Hunger, MAPS will be holding our annual community service event. We will be packaging meals consisting of rice, vegetables, and minerals. Volunteers will be broken up into groups: one group will fill the bags with the ingredients, another will seal the packages, and the final group will pack the boxes with the finished meals. Hunger is a prevalent issue that affects our local communities and those all around the world. Our goal is to fundraise $2,500 and every dollar makes a difference. This event will only be possible with the co-sponsorship of multiple organizations and charitable donations. All proceeds from this conference will be going toward this cause.
